We work to prepare students with the tools and skills needed to form a solid academic foundation.
Students are taught to apply the reading strategies they have learned in real-world situations.
As their reading fluency and comprehension improve, they aspire to reach new goals and strive to excel in areas where they once struggled.
Our reading program utilizes the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Orton-Gillingham is a multi-sensory approach that utilizes the three pathways by which we learn: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. The Orton-Gillingham approach was developed in the early 20th century by Samuel Torrey Orton (1879–1948), a neuropsychiatrist and pathologist at Columbia University, and Anna Gillingham (1878–1963), an educator and psychologist also affiliated with Columbia University. It has been in use since the 1930s.
Our instruction sessions are one-on-one, hands-on, and interactive. Teachers and students work together using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic exercises, which teach the fundamentals of reading in a way that enhances memory storage and retrieval.
